Hyderabad, April 16 (IANS) Telugu director Raj K.S. Gopi says that Bollywood actress Preeti Jhangiani's sensuous item number in his directorial debut 'Tejam' will boost her career in southern films.

'I'm doing a film with eight newcomers. Preeti is well-known in Telugu but so far she has done mostly offbeat, mellow roles. Now that she is doing an item number, her career will get a boost,' Gopi told IANS.

Preeti, however, said she is playing a 'vital role in 'Tejam'.

'My role is important to the story as is my dance number,' the actress was quoted as saying.

While Preeti's pictures in a skimpy outfit has created a wave in Hyderabad ahead of the movie's release, sources close to her said that the 'Mohabbattein' girl was looking forward to the image makeover.

'After her marriage to Parvin Dabbas last year, Preeti's career was going nowhere. The item number will make people sit up and take notice, hopefully,' a source said.

New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) The producers of multiple Oscar-winning movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' are hoping to change the lives of children living in Mumbai slums with a $744,000 programme aimed at providing healthcare and education to these kids.

'Slumdog Millionaire is a film which epitomises the positive spirit of children and the film's success is an inspiration and a way forward to improve the lives of the most vulnerable children of Mumbai,' said actor Anil Kapoor in a statement.

The funds will be given to Plan, an international children development organization, that will focus on education, health, water and sanitation needs besides protection of the kids living in a slum located in central Mumbai.

Announcing the contribution to Plan, producer Christian Colson said: 'The money should allow thousands of youngsters to get education and access to good healthcare.

'We are grateful to everyone who has supported this initiative and we are looking forward to working with Plan to ensure that the money is put to the best possible use.'

Danny Boyle, who directed the rags-to-riches drama, said that the initiative is a way of giving back to the city.

'Having benefited so much from the hospitality of the people of Mumbai, it is only right that some of the success of the movie be ploughed back into the city in areas where it is needed most and where it can make a real difference to some lives,' said Boyle.

In addition to $744,000 a separate trust called the Jai Ho Trust has been established to look after two of the film's child stars Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and ensure that they receive quality education and a house to live in.

Mumbai-based 'Slumdog Millionaire' is the tale of an 18-year-old slum dweller who goes on to become a millionaire by winning a quiz show. The film won eight Oscars.

Cape Town, April 16 (IANS) Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty will be among those watching all the women attending the Indian Professional League games in South Africa over the next five weeks to find the newest Bollywood starlet.

The Indian Professional League has announced a Bollywood movie role for one lucky South African lass as it prepares to launch the five-week Twenty20 extravaganza here on Saturday with an inaugural double header.

The search for a young South African woman with the potential to take Bollywood by storm was announced here Thursday by IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi and Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty and Preity Zinta, all having stakes in the IPL teams.

The lucky South African IPL fan with star quality stands to win a role in a Bollywood movie, 50,000 rands in cash, a business class trip to India and other prizes in the 2009 tournament's Miss Bollywood SA competition.

'We're looking for someone who has the star quality to stand out in a crowd, probably without even trying that hard. It's that special, almost indefinable, quality that makes someone a star more than a beauty queen that we are looking for,' Modi said.

'IPL matches with their mix of fun and excitement are an excellent environment to identify the kind of person who is a natural stand-out in a big crowd.'

'Star searches like this are a really great way to find people who may never even have thought that they have what it takes to really make it big,' Shah Rukh said.

'The heart of our idea is to search the crowd at IPL matches for someone who has the attitude and appearance that automatically draws the eye. It will be the kind of person who is not necessarily showing off for the camera, but who can mesmerise even total strangers,' he said.

A total of 50 winners will be chosen from the crowds at every one of the eight venues around the country that are to host IPL matches. Winners will be shown on the big screen at every match during the second five-minute break.

There will be one finalist per match, identified with the help of TV producers who will have cameras scanning the crowds. IPL matches are being played in Cape Town, East London, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

One finalist from each venue will be chosen, leaving eight winners to be hosted and feted at The Wanderers in Johannesburg at the final of the IPL 2009 tournament on 24 May. The ultimate winner will be announced during the final.

IPL fans worldwide will also be able to cast their votes for the winner via the IPL website.

The IPL is also set to announce an eight-million rand educational project here on Friday.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala is finally ready with his crossover film Kambakht Ishq. Shot at Universal Studios, Los Angeles, the film will see Hollywood biggies Sylvester Stallone, Denise Richards and Brendon Routh sharing screen space with Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor.

"For us to have Rocky, Superman and a Bond Girl in one film - it must be destiny. Even a Hollywood film can't boast of a cast like this," says Sajid.

Revealing more about the film, Sajid says it involves a love triangle between Denise, Akshay and Kareena. "Contrary to reports, all three of them have proper roles.

Stallone has action scenes and Hindi dialogues too," he says. Sly is someone he's especially fond of.

"Sylvester's posters would be on every wall while working out in the gym. When I met him to sign the deal, I didn't know whether to take his autograph or his signature," says the self-professed "mad fan.

" However, having him around did pose some challenges. "Everyone in the team was star struck.

Whenever someone was missing from work, he or she could be found standing with him." With so many Hollywood biggies around, won't Akshay and Kareena get sidelined? "No.

The film is about them. Akshay plays a spot boy who lives life on the edge and Kareena plays a top notch model.

They are the lead. The idea of bringing such a cast was to offer something different.

We wanted a film industry as the backdrop and for that purpose, Bollywood has been done to death. Hollywood seemed like a fresh idea.

" Even though the film is on hold because of the ongoing argument between filmmakers and multiplex owners, Sajid is upbeat. "I just hope it gets resolved and we can present the film to our viewers," he says.

Washington, Apr 17 (ANI): Jamie Foxx may have apologised for mocking Miley Cyrus, but the teen sensation's dad doesn't think the comedian's jokes were funny.

Billy Ray Cyrus has said that Foxx's insults to his daughter were hurtful and hardly funny.he 41-year-old funnyman had launched a crude attack on the teen sensation in an episode of his weekly radio show 'The Foxxhole'.

"Make a sex tape and grow up!" Fox News quoted him as having said on the show.

Responding to the comments, Miley's dad told talk show host Bonnie Hunt: "It was hurtful, there wasn't nothing funny about it, and quite frankly, I think if I said those things about his daughter he might not find it so comedic."

Although, it's not clear when Foxx's comments were made, but he later issued an apology on a recent episode of 'The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno, claiming he meant no harm. (ANI)

After teaming up with Ranbir Kapoor in the hit film 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', director Siddharth Anand has signed his childhood buddy for his next film too. The surprising thing is the casting of Priyanka Chopra opposite the young actor for the first time.

'It is a romantic comedy, which I've specialised in over the years. But this is a twisted one with a twang and all that jazz,' Anand told IANS.

Though neither producer Sajid Nadiadwala nor Anand are willing to confirm, but according to dependable sources, Priyanka who is currently shooting with Uday Chopra for Yash Raj Films' 'Pyar Impossible', will be cast opposite Ranbir.

The actress has lately been window-shopping for the hottest male actors in Bollywood and has so far managed films superstar Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. She also has several projects with Abhishek Bachchan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan.

And Priyanka has just completed 'Kaminay' with Shahid Kapur. She is now on to the new generation of stars with Ranbir leading the bright pack. The pairing spree certainly gives Priyanka an edge over her rivals.

It seems the never-say-die friendship between director Anand and actor Saif Ali Khan is over for all practical purposes. After their two films together 'Salaam Namaste' and 'Ta Ra Rum Pum', the two had sworn to work together again.

But 'Ta Ra Rum Pum' didn't do well and Anand quickly gravitated towards his childhood buddy Ranbir for his next film 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', which was a hit.

After 'Bachna Ae Haseeno', it was widely believed that Saif would be back in Anand's next for Nadiadwala.

Mumbai, April 17 (IANS) Telugu hit 'Arundhati' is all set to be remade into Hindi and the makers wanted to cast Anushka Sharma in the title role. But the 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi' heroine couldn't be finalised for it because of some misconceptions.

'They needed someone strong, robust, young and determined and very north Indian as the lead in Hindi. They really wanted Anushka Sharma. She was perfect. But the producer was under the impression that she's under contract with Yash Raj Films and unable to do any outside film,' said a source close to the film.

'Now they might settle for the actress who played the lead in the Telugu 'Arundhati' in Hindi. Coincidentally, her name too is Anushka,' the source added.

Many producers, including Madhu Mantena, who produced 'Ghajini', were vying for the Hindi remake rights. But Telugu producer M. Shyam Prasad Reddy is finally making it it in Hindi.

Sonu Sood, who played the main antagonist in the Telugu version and is set to encore the same part in Hindi, confirms these developments.

'I'm excited because we all worked very hard on making the Telugu original something special. Lots of producers wanted to remake it in Hindi. But now the original producer has decided to go for it. The Hindi 'Arundhati' will be far more expensive and polished. We start shooting in June,' said Sonu whose last Hindi relase was 'Ek Vivaah... Aisa Bhi'.

Sood has already started preparing for the part and said: 'The Hindi version will have to be severely revised.'

Priyadarshan was approached to direct 'Arundhati' in Hindi but apparently he wasn't ready to accept the offer at such short notice.

'And the original director Kodi Ramkrishna can't understand Hindi. So we're probably going with a guy named Rahul who did all the special effects in Tamil,' said Sonu.

Arjan Bajwa of 'Fashion' fame, who played the romantic lead in 'Arundhati', is not part of the Hindi remake.

Said Arjan: 'They haven't asked me. Even if they had, I wouldn't do it. Have you seen what has been done to my role in the Telugu film?'
